I am using windows XP Pro and Yahoo messenger 9.0. After connecting to yahoo messenger, if I want to shut down?

my laptop, no matter if I exit yahoo messenger or not before, I always get the END PROGRAM window about my yahoo messenger. Is that normal? I have to end the program before windows shuts down if not, my laptop stays on. Help me please with this problem
